Make a Faux Canvas for Under $2 Plus Free Oregon State Printable

Decorating your house doesn’t have to break the budget. You can make a faux canvas for less than $2. Here’s how.

First you’ll need to gather your materials.

  1. 8×10 blank canvas. I got a ten pack from Michael’s craft store for $10 after the 50% off coupon I had making them just $1 each.
  2. 8×10 Print. I printed my Oregon print on glossy cardstock paper at Office Depot for $.80. You can also print an 8×10 photo but this will cost more money. I don’t recommend printing at home if you have an inkjet printer. I have not tried it but I’m pretty sure it will bleed once you put the mod podge on it.
  3. Mod Podge and a craft brush. If you do not already have these items this project will cost you a little more.

Cut your print to the size of the 8×10 frame. I cut mine just barely smaller so that it is easier to glue it on the flat surface. If it is too big it will have to bend around the canvas and might not glue down well.

Apply the mod podge to your canvas with the craft brush. It’s okay to go around the corners where the print might not reach. This will dry clear and you won’t see it.

Place your print onto the canvas and smooth out to make sure there aren’t any bubbles. Let it dry for a few minutes.

Apply mod pogde to the top of the print. This will dry clear but will leave a little bit of texture on the print so be intentional with how you paint. I painted mine all in one direction after making sure that all the edges were covered.
